Ensuring the Delivery of Essential Health Services During the COVID-19 Pandemic: An Infection Prevention and Control Readiness Response in Five Countries

COVID-19 significantly disrupted health systems, creating a need to assess both assets and gaps to prioritize immediate infection prevention risks and the needs of health care facilities. Developed by MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership, this report details the project's implementation of an infection prevention and control (IPC) COVID-19 activity in Bangladesh, Ghana, India, Sierra Leone, and Uganda. The annex of the report, a COVID-19 Readiness Toolkit, is also available for download.

Report: This report on MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership’s implementation of an IPC COVID-19 activity in Bangladesh, Ghana, India, Sierra Leone, and Uganda includes performance results, key learnings based on multi-method monitoring and assessment methods, and recommendations for future initiatives.

Tool: The COVID-19 Readiness Toolkit fills a gap in comprehensively assessing WASH and IPC across countries with common infection prevention readiness information. It is based on the World Health Organization (WHO) Water and Sanitation for Health Facility Improvement Tool (WASH FIT) and IPC Assessment Framework (IPCAF), as well as the Clean Clinic Approach assessment tool and emerging indicators used in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic response. It includes Scorecards for the General Health Care Facility (inclusive of specific COVID-19 areas), Outpatient Wards, Labor and Delivery Wards, and Postnatal Care Wards, and assessment tools for interviewing health facility administrators and information and communication technologies.
