Strategies for Deploying Pediatric Death Audit to Improve Quality of Care

Pediatric death audits are used to improve health care quality and outcomes for children. In this report, MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership examined the use of death audits in Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, and Zambia. These experiences suggested both challenges in the use of death audits for improving pediatric quality care as well as options to begin developing effective systems that incorporate audits, even in low-resource settings.

Furthering a Movement: The Perinatal Mental Health Community of Practice

The Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) Community of Practice (CoP) is a global collaborative platform for experts and practitioners working in maternal and newborn health, mental health, and related fields. As an inclusive environment for members to collaborate, the PMH CoP will connect individuals interested in PMH, empower them to collaborate to address the challenges and questions surrounding global PMH, and disseminate the latest information about PMH. This briefer shares more about the purpose and structure of the CoP as well as how to join this exciting community. The PMH CoP is supported by MOMENTUM Country and Global leadership.

Policy Dialogue for Respectful Maternal Care in Rwanda: Documenting Processes and Outcomes

This package of resources details the process and outcomes from a policy dialogue co-design process in Rwanda—led by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and supported by MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership—to guide the development of evidence-based Respectful Maternal Care (RMC) language for inclusion in existing policies. As a result, Rwanda’s MOH drafted and will incorporate RMC-specific policy language into its updated Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) policy and Maternal Child Health (MCH) strategic plan to promote an enabling environment and best practices for RMC.

Formative Assessment on Intrapartum Nutrition in Ghana and Nepal

This case study provides an overview of formative research by MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership into intrapartum nutrition practices, as guided by the 2018 WHO recommendation on intrapartum oral intake, in Ghana and Nepal. As one of the first systematic investigations on adherence to the WHO recommendation for intrapartum oral intake in low- and middle-income country settings, this research is an important step in expanding the evidence base around intrapartum nutrition in these contexts and presents cross-cutting recommendations to support and/or strengthen intrapartum oral intake within the context of respectful maternal care.

Integration of Nutrition, Food Security, and Immunization Programs in Madagascar Technical Consultation Report

This is a report from a May 2023 technical consultation supported by MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership on the integration of nutrition, food security, and immunization services in Madagascar. This report is intended to stimulate discussions and inform future MOMENTUM programming on how to integrate immunization, nutrition, and food security programs and services to reach zero-dose children and malnourished children with potent routine immunization vaccines, food supplements, and treatment in the country.

MOMENTUM Small/Sick Newborn Care Learning Resource Bundle

The WHO Model of Care for Small and/or Sick Newborns (SSNBs) aims to reduce neonatal mortality and address the needs of vulnerable newborns. Three MOMENTUM awards--Country and Global Leadership, Private Healthcare Delivery, and Integrated Health Resilience--partnered with governments and stakeholders in Indonesia, Mali, Nepal, and Nigeria to implement SSNB care models. MOMENTUM Knowledge Accelerator spearheaded a common learning agenda to document the rollout of the small and sick newborn care model (SSNC) in diverse contexts, revealing insights into strategic approaches and technical actions for effective SSNC provision. This resource bundle includes the resources and products that were generated from the joint learning efforts across the suite.
