The State of the World’s Midwifery: A Caribbean Response

This report, supported by MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership, provides an overview of the status of core midwife workforce issues in the Caribbean region with recommendations for the continued development of midwifery. The report contains data collected from participant countries—Antigua, The Bahamas, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago—and provides valuable data to inform next steps to shape the profession in the region. Evidence collected here indicates that although progress has been demonstrated, continued support of professional organizations, regulatory processes and educational strengthening is needed for midwifery to recover from the impacts of the COVID pandemic and to provide equitable access to health services in the region.
