Informed Consent for Cesarean Section in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Scoping Review Brief

The original scoping review conducted by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), on which this brief is based, sought to better understand the existing range of literature on informed consent practices for CS in low- and middle-income countries. The scoping review mapped and synthesized evidence from existing literature on the practices and experiences of counseling, informed consent, and debriefing (CCD)—including barriers, facilitators, and interventions to promote these practices—to highlight key challenges and any previously successful programmatic interventions to address them. The review also identified research gaps and provides recommendations for future research.

Assessment Findings for Improving the Participation of Family Planning Private Sector Providers in Health Care Provider Networks in the Provinces of Antique and Guimaras, Philippines

This technical report summarizes the results of field assessments undertaken by MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery in 2021, which will help improve private health provider participation in family planning service delivery. This report guides health sector actors in the Philippines and offers lessons learned for global audiences considering health financing mechanisms similar to the healthcare provider networks found in the Philippines.

Engaging Faith-Based Organizations for Promoting the Uptake of COVID-19 Vaccine in India: A Case Study of a Multi-Faith Society

Mass vaccination, currently the most promising solution to contain communicable diseases, including COVID-19, requires collaboration between a variety of partners to improve the supply and demand and alleviate vaccine inequity. This article presents experiences from the strategic engagement with faith-based organizations (FBOs)  to promote uptake of COVID-19 vaccination, especially among the vulnerable and marginalized communities in India.

Uncovering the Drivers of Childhood Immunization Inequality with Caregivers, Community Members and Health System Stakeholders: Results from a Human-Centered Design Study in DRC, Mozambique and Nigeria

The importance of immunization for child survival underscores the need to eliminate immunization inequalities. Few existing studies of inequalities use approaches that view the challenges and potential solutions from the perspective of caregivers. This study aimed to identify barriers and context-appropriate solutions by engaging deeply with caregivers, community members, health workers, and other health system actors through participatory action research, intersectionality, and human-centered design lenses.

Gender-based Violence Services Mapping in Ebonyi and Sokoto States in Nigeria

As part of MOMENTUM’s efforts to prevent and mitigate the consequences of violence against women and girls (VAWG) and possible drivers of child early and forced marriage (CEFM), the mapping exercise aimed to identify, enumerate, and map existing survivor-centered GBV services, including formal and informal services; determine the readiness of facilities to provide quality services across sectors; and assess capacities of service providers in the 11 LGAs. The mapping project prioritized the following sectors: health care, law enforcement, legal counsel/support, psychosocial support, child protection, temporary/emergency shelter, and economic empowerment/livelihood.

Case Study: India | Micro-Targeting for Equitable COVID-19 Vaccination

This case study illustrates how USAID’s MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity project, in partnership with the Government of India and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, used a micro-targeting strategy to identify and convey information about COVID-19 vaccination to marginalized and hard-to-reach populations across 18 states in India. It discusses related opportunities, challenges, and key lessons for the global health community.
