Establishing Routine Health Care Quality Monitoring and Improvement

On July 13th, 2023, MOMENTUM's Monitoring, Evaluation, Innovation, and Learning Working Group held a webinar, "Establishing Routine Health Care Quality Monitoring and Improvement." Attendees heard from Dr. Shogo Kubota about an approach used in Lao PDR by the World Health Organization (WHO) in partnership with the government of Lao PDR to monitor quality service delivery and use data for service improvements. Following Dr. Kubota's presentation, webinar attendees and the Working Group discussed the implications of this approach for measuring effective coverage.

How Data Systems Can Help Identify Zero-Dose and Under-Immunized Children

Reducing the number of zero-dose and under-immunized children requires accurate, specific, and real-time data. However, to date, few immunization information systems have been designed explicitly with zero-dose children in mind. On July 12, 2023, MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity held a learning exchange webinar to discuss a landscape analysis of existing and novel data systems that can be used to identify, monitor, and reach these children. The webinar included an in-depth exploration of the analysis by one of its authors, Allison Osterman.

The Impact of COVID-19 on Contraceptive Supplies Through Private Sector Pharmacies: Analysis of Data from Brazil, Côte d’Ivoire, and the Philippines

The private sector plays a key role in delivering family planning (FP) services in many countries, and to date, the impact of COVID-19 on private sector FP services has been relatively unknown. Analysis in this report provides a snapshot of how global shocks like COVID-19 affect local sales of contraceptives in the private sector by using retail pharmacy data collected by IQVIA. The report highlights data from private sector family planning markets in Brazil, Cote d'Ivoire, and the Philippines.

Data for Action: A Guide for Meetings Focused On Improving Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Program Performance in Low- And Middle-Income Countries

Review and action based on routine health program data is a fundamental strategy for driving an adaptive management and learning process to rapidly improve programming. Data for Action meetings are intended to provide a platform to provide feedback on data quality for prioritized indicators, review progress, and generate a follow-up action plan. This guide supports the conduct of such regular data for action meetings. It includes an illustrative agenda, tools, and templates to adapt to the needs of a reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health project.
