A Practical Introduction to Classic LQAS: An Interactive Discussion about the Whys, Whens, and Hows of Applying Lot Quality Assurance Sampling

On February 22, 2024, MOMENTUM Knowledge Accelerator held a webinar on lot quality assurance sampling (LQAS), a classification method for evaluating a program to determine whether a coverage threshold has been reached. LQAS is a relatively rapid and inexpensive approach to data collection in lieu of traditional surveys used internationally and recently integrated with cluster sampling for applications in large countries. In this webinar, Joseph Valdez, a Professor of Global Health at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, discusses the origins of LQAS in the 1920s; how to apply LQAS for monitoring and evaluating programs; how to select an LQAS sample size, collect the data and interpret it; and common pitfalls and things to avoid.

Expanding Contraceptive Method Choice With a Hormonal Intrauterine Device: Results From Mixed Methods Studies in Kenya and Zambia

Few women in low- and middle-income countries have access to the hormonal intrauterine device (IUD). Past research from a small number of facilities and the private sector suggests the hormonal IUD could be an important addition to the contraceptive method mix because it is the only long-acting method some women will adopt and users report high satisfaction and continuation. This article, published in Global Health: Science and Practice, and developed by staff from MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership, aims to determine whether these promising results were applicable in public facilities in Kenya and Zambia.

COVID-19 to Routine Immunization Information System Transferability Assessment (CRIISTA)

Many countries have recognized these investments as a potential opportunity for strengthening routine IISs. The COVID-19 to Routine Immunization Information System Transferability Assessment (CRIISTA) aims to facilitate a thorough process for collecting and reviewing relevant information to support decision-making around whether it is appropriate to scale a COVID-19 IIS, or parts of it, for use in routine immunization.
