Quality of Care for Family Planning: A Comparison of Private and Public Facilities in Seven Countries Using Survey Data

Both public and private health facilities play important roles in the provision of voluntary family planning services. However, little is known about how and if quality of care may differ between these two types of facilities. MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery has conducted an analysis of Service Provision Assessment surveys to compare quality of care for family planning services in public and private health facilities across several countries. The report, "Quality of Care for Family Planning: A Comparison of Private and Public Facilities in 7 Countries Using Survey Data" shares findings that reveal significant nuanced differences between public and private sector health facilities in three key aspects of quality: structure, process, and overall outcome.  A research brief is also available and highlights the key findings from the report.

Impact of the Sars-Cov-2 Pandemic on Routine Immunization Services: Evidence of Disruption and Recovery from 170 Countries and Territories

A new study published in The Lancet Global Health finds that as countries continue pandemic response efforts, vulnerabilities are exposed in immunizations systems. The study, funded in part by MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership, synthesized data representing 170 countries and territories, finding declines among vaccination doses administered and other indications of significant and widespread disruptions in immunization systems during 2020.

Thinking Big about Postabortion Care: Improving postabortion care and postabortion family planning through identification, prioritization, and enabling critical behaviors

Complications from miscarriage and unsafe induced abortions are a major cause of mortality or morbidity for women worldwide, particularly in low and middle-income countries. USAID and its partners have been investing resources in improving the access to and quality of postabortion care (PAC) for decades. New guidance from USAID MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership contributes to that work by leveraging lessons learned from global efforts to date by unpacking key behaviors around PAC and postabortion family planning. Specifically, the guidance pinpoints and prioritizes key actions, actors, enabling and inhibiting factors, and strategies at different levels in order to transform global PAC. For each behavior, the guidance describes pathways to change demonstrated to enable and sustain the behavior. Country programs can use this guidance to identify and resolve context-specific challenges and opportunities to promote quality PAC and postabortion family planning.

The Humanitarian-Development Nexus: A Framework for MNCH/FP/RH

Women and children are disproportionately harmed by conflicts and crises, with maternal, newborn, and child mortality seeing significantly higher rates in fragile settings. Now more than ever in such settings, where both humanitarian and development assistance are being delivered, coordination and collaboration between these actors are needed. On December 16, 2021, MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience hosted a webinar introducing a conceptual framework to visualize MNCH/FP/RH health programming in the humanitarian-development nexus (HDN), which draws from frameworks put forth by the United Nations and health system strengthening from WHO and USAID.
