Webinar: COVID-19 Vaccination Implementation – Lessons Learned from Vietnam
Published on October 14, 2022
Overall, Vietnam has high vaccination rates against COVID-19. However, vaccination has been less accessible to those living in remote areas or with mobility challenges due to age, financial status, or disability. From November 2021 to September 2022, MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity project worked to increase COVID-19 vaccinations among these populations in the central and northern provinces of Dien Bien, Son La, Hoa Binh, Quang Nam, and Ninh Thuan.
Over a relatively short period of time, the project helped identify unvaccinated people across these five provinces and worked with the Ministry of Health, the National Expanded Program on Immunization, and the Northern and Central Regional Expanded Programs on Immunization to develop and implement strategies to reach them. These experiences provided valuable lessons that may be able to be adapted and applied in other contexts, both in South East Asia and globally.
On October 18, 2022, MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity hosted a webinar to share how they partnered with local organizations and governments to plan Vietnam’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign. Strategies discussed included developing accurate microplans for vaccination sessions at the local level, reaching marginalized populations through a mobile vaccination strategy, and reaching children aged 5 to 11 through coordination with the education sector.
