If You Build It, Will It Last? Introduction to Sustainable Digital Health Interventions on MOMENTUM

On August 17th, 2022, MOMENTUM hosted a webinar highlighting key global guidance documents that lay the foundation for sustainable digital health interventions and implementation, and shared how one MOMENTUM award has utilized these strategies. The overarching goal for employing these strategies is to reduce fragmented digital health systems in order to drive use of scalable and sustainable digital health solutions that can transform health systems and outcomes.

The Power of Youth Voices: How Youth Are Holding Their Health Systems Accountable for Family Planning and Reproductive Health

MOMENTUM identified challenges to youth social accountability related to youth participation, health system responsiveness, and an over-emphasis on short-term project-based accountability compared with sustainable youth-led movement building. Promising practices for youth social accountability emerging from the landscape include capacity building for youth and adults, strengthening relationships between youth and health system actors, leveraging digital connectedness, and targeting accountability efforts at multiple levels of the health system. Through this landscape analysis, we found that youth social accountability implementation is racing ahead of documentation and that there are opportunities to improve youth social accountability practice in order to increase youth leadership and improve the responsiveness of health systems to the needs and rights of youth.

MOMENTUM Modular Health Facility Assessment

The Modular Health Facility Assessment (HFA) and user guide provide the MOMENTUM suite of awards with a tool focusing on reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health/family planning care and services, including seven modules that collect information on the following: service availability; service readiness; quality and safety of patient care; experience of care; availability of register; community services and mobilization; health facility oversight; quality improvement; and use of data.

Meeting the Contraceptive Needs of Youth Through Digital Tools: Reaching Beninese Youth Where They Are

MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery aims to improve youth access to reliable sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information with digital tools. With youth input, MOMENTUM designed an SRH-focused chatbot, Tata Annie, to meet the needs of youth in Benin and to provide confidential, on-demand SRH information. This program brief outlines the key design elements and adaptations made for the digital tool, including how MOMENTUM leveraged trainings and support from Meta to promote the chatbot.

Chatbots, Board Games, and More: Using Innovative Methods to Engage Men in Family Health

Male engagement, whether as part of a child’s immunization journey or a couple’s decision about family planning, is critical for the success of various family health programs. In the MOMENTUM webinar “Chatbots, Board Games, and More: Using Innovative Methods to Engage Men in Family Health,” held on June 27th, 2023, speakers from five countries share that men are willing to support their families’ health needs but need to be engaged intentionally to understand the benefits and how best to do it. In the webinar, they highlight a chatbot to engage men in family planning, a board game to facilitate couples’ communication, global vasectomy trends, insights about men’s roles in children’s immunization, and ideas for engaging men in ways that support women’s rights and autonomy.

Ensuring the Delivery of Essential Health Services during the COVID-19 Pandemic: WASH & IPC Response

On June 8, 2022, MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership convened a webinar to learn about and discuss successes, challenges, and recommendations from their work providing rapid technical and capacity development assistance to local health networks in Bangladesh, Ghana, India, Sierra Leone, and Uganda during the COVID-19 pandemic. Presenters highlighted MOMENTUM’s use of virtual capacity strengthening processes and tools, open-source digital data collection platforms, and local partnerships.

MOMENTUM Safe Surgery India Gender Integrated Response to Emerging COVID-19 Priorities Technical Briefs and Informational Leaflet

This series of four technical briefs reflects MOMENTUM Safe Surgery in Family Planning and Obstetrics' work on: 1) Gender-based Violence Prevention and Response; 2) Development of a digital mental health app to connect Community Health Workers (CHWs) with mental health services and support to address stress and burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic; 3) Emergency Respiratory Management; and 4) Strengthening Gender-based Violence Referral and Response through Community Radio. A two-page leaflet also provides an overview of the project's response.
