Engaging for Impact: Strengthening Private Sector Participation in Public Purchasing for Increased Access to Family Planning in the Philippines

On June 15, 2023, MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery hosted a webinar with partners ThinkWell and the Integrated Midwives Association of the Philippines (IMAP) to share how the project has unlocked private sector capacity to expand access to family planning (FP) in the Philippines. The Philippines has made significant progress in expanding access to FP services in recent years, but coverage remains uneven, particularly for long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs). Since 2021, MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery has supported the IMAP to strengthen private FP provider capacities and participation in these networks, resulting in locally-led solutions co-designed by the public and private sectors. The webinar shared highlights from MOMENTUM’s work and provided global lessons for sustainable private sector engagement in family planning.

Effects of Local Faith-Actor Engagement in the Uptake and Coverage of Immunization in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: A Literature Review

This landscape review from MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership, published in the Christian Journal for Global Health, found extensive evidence supporting the value of religious engagement for immunization promotion and acceptance in lower- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Yet rigorous evidence and specific approaches for engaging local faith actors to strengthen immunization uptake in LMICs are limited. As countries urgently work to expand access to COVID-19 vaccinations, this study advances understanding of how to more effectively engage local faith actors in promoting immunization campaigns and addressing vaccine hesitancy.

Policy, Program, and Operational Learnings Report of iCCM and CMAM Integration

Currently, only about one-third of children with severe acute malnutrition have access to community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) where trained community health workers provide treatment. Integrated community case management (iCCM) is a strategy to equip community health workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to assess and counsel families with sick children and limited access to health facilities. This approach can improve treatment coverage and cure rates of severe wasting. The findings in this document share programmatic considerations and policy considerations with this approach.
