Strengthening FP and SRH Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) – Insights and Dialogue on FP2030 EPR Commitments

On July 9, 2024, MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience, in collaboration with PROPEL Adapt and FP2030, hosted a webinar part of a series related to emergency preparedness and resilience for family planning and reproductive health. FP2030 has invested in Emergency Preparedness and Response as a key strategy to strengthen resilience of FP services and save lives during shocks and stressors to healthcare systems or societies at large. This webinar provided a unique learning and exchange opportunity to explore how EPR for FP/SRH can be operationalized and learn from countries about concrete strategies, initiatives, and policies they have implemented to secure continuous access to FP and SRH during crisis. The session included a dialogue with partners from different regions and facing different contexts from Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, and Ethiopia.

Introduction of Balanced Energy Protein (BEP) Supplementation Through Routine Antenatal Care

In this landscape analysis, MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership provides an in-depth understanding of barriers, enabling factors and challenges in the implementation of balanced energy protein (BEP) supplementation through routine antenatal care (ANC). These products compile evidence from 6 countries—Colombia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique and Nepal—to generate program recommendations to guide country programs.

COVID-19 Vaccination Integration Assessment

As many countries transition away from the emergency phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, they must consider the long-term plans and future sustainability of COVID-19 vaccination. The USAID-funded MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity and Health Systems Strengthening Accelerator projects conducted a qualitative assessment in seven countries on the status and plans for COVID-19 vaccination integration into routine immunization and primary health care, and the health system more broadly. Each country report summarizes findings and lessons learned from key informant interviews and focus group discussions conducted with stakeholders involved in implementing integration activities at national and sub-national levels.

2022 IDEOF Webinar: The Importance of Rehabilitation and Reintegration in Holistic Fistula Care

On May 19, 2022, MOMENTUM Safe Surgery in Family Planning and Obstetrics hosted a global webinar to recognize the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula (May 23) and highlight a crucial aspect of holistic female genital fistula care: rehabilitation and reintegration services for fistula clients. This webinar convened advocates and leaders in comprehensive fistula programming and showcased evidence-based approaches from Guinea, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Tanzania, among other settings, describing how physiotherapy, social reintegration, economic empowerment, community-based rehabilitation and prevention of recurrence, and the opportunity to advocate for safe motherhood care can transform the lives of fistula survivors.

Nutrition Quality of Care for Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health

MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership developed a technical brief on the nutrition components of the WHO maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (MNCAH) Quality of Care (QoC) standards and associated policy and implementation considerations, and early learning related to implementing these nutrition standards. The primary objective of the brief is to raise awareness among nutrition and MNCAH stakeholders (country and global) of the nutrition QoC standards, and of the opportunities to apply the standards to improve the quality of integrated MNCAH and nutrition services. The brief highlights early learning from three QoC Network countries (Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Ghana) that are implementing efforts to improve the quality of integrated health and nutrition services, and outlines policy and implementation considerations for improving the quality of integrated nutrition and MNCAH services. MCGL will continue to use the brief as part of its technical and capacity development assistance efforts with a subset of countries to advance nutrition as a component of QoC efforts for women, newborns, children, and adolescents.

Qualité des soins en matière de nutrition pour la santé maternelle, néonatale, infantile et adolescente

MOMENTUM Leadership national et mondial a développé un résumé technique sur la qualité des soins en matière de nutrition pour la santé maternelle, néonatale infantile et adolescente (SMNIA) et sur les considérations de politique et de mise en œuvre connexes, ainsi que sur les premiers résultats de la mise en œuvre de ces normes nutritionnelles. L’objectif principal de ce résumé est de sensibiliser les acteurs de la nutrition et de la SMNIA (au niveau national et international) aux normes de qualité des soins en matière de nutrition et aux possibilités d’appliquer ces normes pour améliorer la qualité des services intégrés de SMNIA et de nutrition. Le résumé souligne les premiers apprentissages de trois pays du Réseau de la qualité des soins  (Nigeria, Ethiopie, et Ghana) qui mettent en œuvre des mesures pour améliorer la qualité des services intégrés de santé et de nutrition, et souligne les considérations relatives aux politiques et à la mise en œuvre pour améliorer la qualité des services intégrés de nutrition et de SMNIA.

Nutrition Counseling and Care During and After Childhood Illness Literature Review: Evidence from African Countries

Optimal infant and young child feeding is key for child survival, growth, and development. However, some contexts do not provide quality feeding counseling and services during sick child visits and there is a lack of information on these services surrounding common childhood illnesses in Africa. This review provides information on nutrition counseling and care during and after childhood illness in Africa, reports trends for feeding and care practices from 2005 to 2020, and investigates the practices of caregivers and health providers for nutrition counseling during and after childhood illness.
