January 31, 2023, New Delhi: MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity, along with the Government of India and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India, recently hosted a National Conclave titled “Power of the Collective” to celebrate India’s successful COVID-19 journey. The event was widely attended by local, state, national and multinational immunization partners. In the past two years, India has navigated multiple challenges and waves of COVID-19 to administer more than 2.2 billion doses of the vaccine, resulting in upwards of 90 percent of India’s adult population being fully vaccinated. The project provides technical assistance to national and state governments to support COVID-19 vaccination through partnerships with local NGOs to help increase demand, distribution, and uptake of vaccination, particularly for vulnerable and marginalized populations across 19 states and union territories.
The conclave featured a photo exhibition showcasing the many innovative ways India ensured vaccination at the last mile and a ceremony to recognize the efforts of local and state officials and health care workers that support these vaccination efforts.
At the event, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Ashok Babu said, “It has always been our objective to reach every citizen – the most vulnerable from the most remote corners of the country – and secure their health and well-being. Being a part of this Conclave reaffirms my faith in those who have tirelessly worked to mitigate COVID-19 and I am sure will continue to support us even beyond the pandemic.”
