Burundi has made progress in recent years to improve the coverage and quality of emergency and obstetric care for mothers and to increase access to quality family planning services in communities. However, chronic hunger and malnutrition, as well as high maternal, newborn, and child mortality, still make it hard for millions of Burundians to lead healthy lives. Creating demand for health care and services is key to closing this gap. MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery works with 101 clinics across Burundi to improve access to and information on health services, including family planning.

On May 5, Ambassador Melanie H. Higgins, U.S. Ambassador-Designate to the Republic of Burundi, visited demand creation activities in Burundi’s Ngozi province. She joined a small group meeting where Dancille Niyonsaba, a demand creation agent, shared information with women about contraceptive methods available at health facilities near them.
