Now Launching: Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) Community of Practice
Published on May 4, 2023
The first woman-centered, multidisciplinary, globally informed, and low- and middle-income country-led community for perinatal mental health is now launching.
The Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) Community of Practice is a platform to connect those interested in improving and promoting PMH prevention, care, and treatment. The community, hosted on IBPNetwork.org, is a collaborative and inclusive space to exchange best practices, lessons learned, and emerging evidence to advance the field of PMH. Log in to IBP Network to join.
If you’re interested in learning more, register to join our launch webinar taking place virtually on June 29, 2023 from 8am-9:30am EDT.
The community’s creation is a critical next step for the rapidly evolving global movement to recognize PMH as essential to perinatal health and well-being.
Common perinatal mental disorders—including postpartum depression and anxiety—can have significant and lasting implications for women’s health and quality of life and have been associated with adverse outcomes in newborns and children. A growing body of evidence shows a significant global burden of these disorders, including higher prevalence in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where access to prevention, care, and treatment is often limited.
The creation of this community is supported by MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership and builds on extensive global consultations and research to inform the path forward so that all pregnant and postpartum women receive the respectful, nurturing, and holistic health care they need and deserve.
