Harnessing Innovation: How MAKLab is Accelerating Progress for Health Services

On September 25, 2024, MOMENTUM held a webinar on the project's innovation lab, a unique mechanism designed to identify and spread promising solutions to complex challenges that enhance and sustain access to quality, equitable health services across the globe. Led by MOMENTUM Knowledge Accelerator, the Measurement, Adaptive Learning, and Knowledge Management Lab (MAKLab) offers specialized on-demand, technical support to the MOMENTUM suite of awards. This webinar highlighted three product solutions that have emerged from MAKLab: 1) Documenting Adaptive Learning Toolkit, 2) Factors Associated with Uptake and Use of Immunization Toolkits and Guidance, and 3) Adapting Training Materials for Blended Learning brief. During the webinar, attendees gained a deeper understanding of these key resources and heard real-world examples of how they’ve been used in various contexts

Resource Guide for USAID Missions on Measurement of Self-Reported Experience of Care Across SRMNCAH

This guide aims to equip USAID Missions and partners with tools to monitor and evaluate programs that enhance person-centered care across the sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (SRMNCAH) spectrum in low- and middle-income countries, ensuring that the perspectives of clients and caretakers are central to these efforts. The guide compiles measures that can be used to track client-reported experiences of care (EOC) in facility- and community-based health service delivery settings across the spectrum of SRMNCAH, including family planning, HIV, sexually transmitted infections, and care of the sick child. It compiles measures of self-reported data on EOC for the client and caretaker (for newborns and children).

Training Course on Contraception and Family Planning: How Does Each Method Work To Prevent Pregnancy?

Developed by USAID’s MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership, this virtual course contains information on female anatomy, menstruation, ovulation, and fertilization and what is important to know in offering family planning counseling and services. The course also guides providers to consider the needs of particular sub-populations of clients, such as those experiencing reproductive coercion or whose family planning needs may be overlooked because they are either pregnant or recently gave birth. It is recommended for healthcare providers, healthcare workers, and those who provide counseling and services related to family planning.

Programmes nationaux de prévention et de prise en charge de l’hémorragie du post-partum et des troubles hypertensifs de la grossesse

L'hémorragie du post-partum (HPP) et les troubles hypertensifs de la grossesse (HTG) continuent d'être deux des trois principales causes directes de décès maternel dans les pays à revenu faible et intermédiaire. En 2022, l'USAID, avec le soutien de MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership et de MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery et de leurs multiples partenaires, a mené une enquête sur les programmes nationaux visant à réduire la mortalité maternelle et néonatale due à l'hémorragie du post-partum et les troubles hypertensifs de la grossesse. De janvier à mai 2022, 31 pays d'Afrique subsaharienne, d'Asie du Sud et du Sud-Est, d'Amérique latine et des Caraïbes ont répondu à une enquête de 69 questions sur les politiques et pratiques nationales en matière d'HPP et de HTG dans les secteurs public et privé. Les résultats de l'enquête de 2022 ont permis d'obtenir plusieurs informations intéressantes sur l'état actuel des programmes nationaux de lutte contre la HPP et la HTG.

Opportunities to Strengthen the Implementation and Institutionalization of Microplanning for Routine Immunization in Low- and Middle-income Countries

This mixed methods landscape analysis by the MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity project reviewed the evidence on microplanning, with a focus on the drivers of implementation and institutionalization of it in routine immunization programs. The project also sought to understand whether adaptations to microplanning, including digital and for integrated health services, helped overcome any of the known challenges. The primary objective of this analysis was to identify, synthesize, and disseminate evidence related to the drivers of implementing and institutionalizing microplanning in routine immunization programs.

Blended Learning for the Public and Private Healthcare Workforce

On September 25, 2025, MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery brought together experts working in Nigeria, Kenya, and Sierra Leone for an engaging conversation around the variety of blended learning models being used with both public and private healthcare providers in the areas of family planning/reproductive health (FP/RH), maternal and newborn health (MNH) and HIV/AIDS. The expert panel shared lessons learned from the various blended learning models they’ve used in their programming and engaged with one another as well as webinar participants through a question and answer session.

Strengthening Faith Engagement in Family Planning through Health Worker Training and Religious Leader Outreach: Experiences from the Christian Health Association Sierra Leone

This summary report from MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership shares the experiences of the Christian Health Association Sierra Leone in improving the uptake of voluntary family planning through engagement with faith-based health facilities, religious leaders, and their communities. This resource includes details on two strategies: 1) capacity building on fertility awareness methods of FP for service providers and 2) engaging faith leaders on healthy timing and spacing of pregnancies. The report concludes with key recommendations for strengthening the foundations of family planning programming in Sierra Leone.

Early Warning Systems: Rapid Assessments from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mali, Niger, and South Sudan

Early Warning Systems are vital components of disaster risk management and the resilience of health systems, providing local stakeholders—governments, service providers, and communities—with the necessary information and time to prepare for and respond quickly to disasters and other hazardous events. As part of its efforts to build health resilience, MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience conducted a rapid assessment of existing early warning systems (EWS) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Mali, Niger and South Sudan. The assessment evaluated current EWS capabilities and provided recommendations for strengthening these systems to improve MNCH/FP/RH outcomes.
