MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery

On December 2, 2021, MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery launched in Maradi, Niger, in collaboration with the Niger Ministry of Public Health, Population, and Social Affairs. Chaibou Aboubacar, Governor of Maradi, presided over the event and was joined by the President of the City Council of Maradi, the Representative of the Ministry of Health, and the Regional Health Director for Maradi, as well as the lead implementing partner for the project, Population Services International.  Also in attendance were international and local NGOs, local and traditional leaders, administrative and local authorities, and health authorities from four districts where the project is currently underway.   The project will focus on improving access to quality public and private voluntary family planning and reproductive health care and maternal, newborn, and child health services in public and private health facilities.

“The launch of this project is perfectly in line with the commitment of the highest authorities of this country, first and foremost Elhadji Mohamed Bazoum, President of the Republic of Niger, who aims [for] the development of human capital by promoting access to quality health services,” said Aboubacar at the event.

While Niger’s Ministry of Health has made an effort to increase the use of family planning, access to services remains a challenge in Niger, which has the highest birth rate in the world—a Nigerien woman will have an average of seven children throughout her life.1 MOMENTUM is collaborating with public and private health care providers in Niger’s two most populous regions, Maradi and Zinder, where contraceptive use is low.
