Building Resilience in Health: The MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience Approach

MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience helps to develop health resilience capacities at individual to national levels to prevent and mitigate vulnerability to shocks and stresses that can affect health and/or health systems, especially in fragile settings. This brief reviews how the project will approach, build, and strengthen health resilience to improve health outcomes for families, communities, and nation-states, particularly in fragile settings.

Family Planning (FP) Resilience Checklist

The Family Planning (FP) Resilience Checklist is an Excel-based tool to assess the extent to which voluntary family planning efforts, particularly in fragile settings, are integrating interventions to strengthen resilience of individual, couples, communities, and facilities to shocks and stresses, with the aim of scaling and sustaining demand, access, and use of family planning.

Community Health Worker Safety, Resilience and Risk Communication Assessment: Three New Program Components

To design and optimize community health programs in fragile settings, it is critical to adapt and enhance existing assessment tools. To ensure its community health programs are relevant and adapted to the multiple challenges faced by communities, health systems and community health workers (CHWs) in fragile settings, MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience has developed three new programs components for the Community Health Worker Assessment and Improvement Matrix (CHW AIM) toolkit: “Systems and Structures for Continuity and Safety during Shocks and Stresses at Community Level,” “Personal Safety and Resilience of CHW,” and “Risk Communication and Community Engagement.” With these additions, MOMENTUM expects to strengthen the role and capacities of CHWs as critical actors in contributing to the resilience of their communities and themselves.

Understanding Resilience, Self-reliance, and Increasing Country Voice/Decolonizing Global Health: A Clash of Perspectives in Global Health

Not If, But When: Enhancing Individual and Health System Resilience For Better Family Planning/Reproductive Health Outcomes In Fragile Settings

MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience, FP2030, and the Women’s Refugee Commission hosted a side event at the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) in Pattaya, Thailand, on Monday, November 14, 2022. The meeting was attended by approximately 50 people representing ministries of health, donors, and implementing partners. This briefing note provides a summary of the event, including outcomes of group discussions focused on moving the global health community forward with health resilience and emergency preparedness for voluntary family planning and reproductive health.

Strengthening Health Resilience through Multisectoral Population, Health, and Environment Programming in Tanzania

MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience is implementing an integrated, multisectoral population, health, and environment (PHE) approach to address complex, interconnected challenges in Tanzania while strengthening health resilience. Three specific approaches in this PHE model include: Model Household/Boma Initiative, First-Time Parents program, and Community Conservation Microfinance Groups.

Strengthening Health Resilience in Northern Mali

MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience Household Nutrition Survey

The eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is a fragile and high-conflict region where child health is below optimal levels, and stunting and wasting continue to be major problems. In the summer of 2022, MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience conducted a knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) survey in the catchment areas of 60 MOMENTUM-supported facilities across 10 health zones in North Kivu in eastern DRC.
