Optimizing COVID-19 Vaccination Data Investments for the Future: The COVID-19 to Routine Immunization Information System Transferability Assessment

The COVID-19 emergency and vaccine introduction compelled countries to invest in new immunization information systems to collect, manage, and use COVID-19 vaccination data. The COVID-19 to routine immunization information system transferability assessment (CRIISTA) framework provides a systematic process for gathering evidence and making recommendations to inform these decisions. On May 24, 2023, MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity project held a webinar presenting an overview of the CRIISTA framework, key users and use cases, and the recommended assessment process.

Learning From Health Systems Strengthening Responses to COVID-19

The global COVID-19 pandemic challenged health systems worldwide, examining their resilience in maintaining essential services while preventing and responding to COVID-19. MOMENTUM Knowledge Accelerator conducted a learning synthesis to understand the extent to which three MOMENTUM projects in India and Sierra Leone used health systems strengthening (HSS) approaches in their COVID-19 response activities. Furthermore, the work sought to distill factors that facilitated, or inhibited, the implementation and outcomes of HSS-oriented COVID-19 response activities. Lessons and recommendations can inform future approaches to integrating HSS in outbreak and pandemic responses.

Training and Planning at Subnational Levels for Integrating COVID-19 Vaccination into Routine Health Services – A Facilitator’s Guide

This guide is intended for personnel at subnational levels (for example, district, county, health facility) who are responsible for managing the integration of COVID-19 vaccination into primary health care and other routine services in lower- and middle-income countries. With a focus on reaching high priority populations, the guide and the tools it includes provide a practical co-creation process for identifying both integrated service delivery models and the changes in management responsibilities needed to support such integration. If health personnel have already adopted such practices, this guide can help refine the management practices and processes.

COVID-19 to Routine Immunization Information System Transferability Assessment (CRIISTA)

The COVID-19 pandemic and vaccine introduction led many countries to invest in new immunization information systems (IISs) to collect, manage, and use COVID-19 vaccination data. Many countries have recognized these investments as a potential opportunity for strengthening routine IISs. The COVID-19 to Routine Immunization Information System Transferability Assessment (CRIISTA) aims to facilitate a thorough process for collecting and reviewing relevant information to support decision-making around whether it is appropriate to scale a COVID-19 IIS, or parts of it, for use in routine immunization.

USAID COVID-19 Implementing Partners Forum Mini-Conference Report

The USAID COVID-19 Vaccine Technical Assistance Implementing Partners (IPs) Forum is a platform for bi-directional sharing of updates, experiences, and ideas, aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of USAID's COVID-19 investments.  MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity serves as the technical lead on the IP Forum secretariat working closely with USAID and Data.FI. Considering the evolving context of the pandemic and the approaching conclusion of the IP Forum, our final learning exchange was a hybrid mini-conference held on July 19, 2023, in Washington D.C. The theme of the mini-conference was "Sustaining and Applying COVID-19 Innovations for Primary Health Care and Routine Immunization". This theme examined the numerous lessons learned from diverse innovations developed during the pandemic, and how these valuable insights can be applied to shape our future and strengthen primary health care and routine immunization programs.
