Investment Case for Scaling Up Integrated Community Case Management (iCCM) and Community Health Services in Malawi

MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership collaborated with the Malawi Ministry of Health to develop a national “Investment Case for Scaling Up Integrated Community Case Management (iCCM) and Community Health Services in Malawi.” The Investment Case provides the Government of Malawi and development partners, as well as other domestic stakeholders focused on strengthening community health, with clear financing requirements and impact projection. The Investment Case justifies continued and increased investments to ensure institutionalization of sustainable, accessible, and equitable iCCM and community health services at scale. It lays out the specific costs associated with scaling up iCCM services in Malawi as a component of the overall community health program—an expansion that would double the percentage of the population served by Health Service Assistants to nearly 80% in 2026, saving an estimated additional 16,000 children’s lives through 2031.

Both public and private health facilities play important roles in the provision of voluntary family planning services. MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery has conducted an analysis of Service Provision Assessment surveys to compare quality of care for family planning services in public and private health facilities across several countries. The report, "Quality of Care for Family Planning: A Comparison of Private and Public Facilities in 7 Countries Using Survey Data" shares findings that reveal significant nuanced differences between public and private sector health facilities in three key aspects of quality: structure, process, and overall outcome.  A research brief is also available and highlights the key findings from the report.
