Closing Immunization Equity Gaps Using Human-Centered Design Approaches in Madagascar

In Madagascar, 33% of children aged 12-23 months of age have never received a vaccination and are therefore entirely missed by country's national immunization system and potentially the broader health system. This report outlines a MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership assessment that explored four areas that, if addressed, can close gaps in immunization equity: zero dose vaccination, birth dose vaccination, missed opportunities for vaccination, and urban vaccination. The report also details the outcomes of a human-centered design workshop held to co-create solutions to barriers or challenges in each of these four areas.

Policy Dialogue for Sustainable Change for Nurses and Midwives

In Ghana, India, Madagascar, and the Caribbean region, MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership works with country stakeholders to embark on a systematic, results-based policy dialogue process to strengthen and support the nursing and midwifery workforce. The process involves engaging government and other relevant stakeholders to come together and examine the country landscape regarding current policies; discuss needed adaptations to legislation, guidelines, systems, strategies, and plans; and make and implement action plans to better meet the needs of midwives, nurses, and, ultimately, the people they serve. This new multi-country brief further details the process, lessons learned, and impacts thus far from these policy dialogue processes, including the way forward.

Introducing the Hormonal IUD in Madagascar, Nigeria, and Zambia: Results from a Pilot Study

This study, published by BMC Reproductive Health, reflects the results of a USAID-funded pilot study on the introduction of the hormonal Intrauterine Device (IUD) in Nigeria, Madagascar, and Zambia. The study analyzed the introduction of the hormonal IUD from the perspective of the family planning user; it included favorable findings on user satisfaction and continuation rates as well as insightful information on demographic profiles of those who chose the method. Work completed by USAID's SIFPO2 project is also included in the study. MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery is now taking this work forward by leveraging the findings from this study in Nigeria and Madagascar to scale up demand generation and training of private providers.
