MOMENTUM Small/Sick Newborn Care Learning Resource Bundle

The WHO Model of Care for Small and/or Sick Newborns (SSNBs) aims to reduce neonatal mortality and address the needs of vulnerable newborns. Three MOMENTUM awards--Country and Global Leadership, Private Healthcare Delivery, and Integrated Health Resilience--partnered with governments and stakeholders in Indonesia, Mali, Nepal, and Nigeria to implement SSNB care models. MOMENTUM Knowledge Accelerator spearheaded a common learning agenda to document the rollout of the small and sick newborn care model (SSNC) in diverse contexts, revealing insights into strategic approaches and technical actions for effective SSNC provision. This resource bundle includes the resources and products that were generated from the joint learning efforts across the suite.

The South East Asia Regional Reference Brief summarizes MOMENTUM’s projects and activities in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam to improve equitable access to respectful quality maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition, voluntary family planning, and reproductive health care for all individuals and communities. Using a Behavioral Lens to Identify Opportunities to Improve the Effectiveness of Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response in Indonesia: The Behaviorally Focused Applied Political Economy Analysis Approach

In the past several years, Indonesia has been implementing maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response (MPDSR) as a strategy to reduce maternal and perinatal mortality. To facilitate progress and complement its wider work in supporting MPDSR rollout, MOMENTUM worked closely with a group of key government stakeholders to apply the BF-APEA approach in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province to better understand the ongoing challenges and come to a consensus on solutions to resolve or mitigate them.

MOMENTUM and the Government of Indonesia Partner to Save Mothers and Babies

Every year, Indonesia still loses more than 15,000 mothers and 75,000 newborns during labor and after delivery. MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership and the Government of Indonesia are partnering to reduce these deaths — the majority of which occur in hospitals. This video shows how a sustainable and scalable model being developed and refined in the province of East Nusa Tenggara has the potential to save the lives of mothers and babies across Indonesia.

It is a special investigation into lessons learned from four countries: Ghana, Indonesia, Sierra Leone, and Uganda. The report explores 15 promising practices for increasing vaccine uptake through strategic engagement of faith actors. The Policy Brief, “Promising Practices for Engaging Local Faith Actors to Promote Uptake of COVID-19 Vaccination: Lessons Learned from Four Countries,” provides an 8-page synopsis of the lessons outlined in the report.
