Piloting a Lean Costing Approach for Family Planning and Maternal Health Services

MOMENTUM Private Healthcare Delivery piloted a 'lean' costing approach to explore the costs and major cost drivers of FP and MH service delivery in the public and private sectors at three sites in Nigeria, Tanzania, and the DRC. Exploring Zero-Dose Child Definitions and Measurement

On February 14, 2024, MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity held a learning exchange webinar to discuss how countries operationalize and measure the definitions of zero-dose and under-immunized children. This learning exchange discussed the operational definition of zero-dose children, followed by experience sharing from Mozambique, Bangladesh, and DRC. Country presenters discussed the issues they faced with operationalizing the standard definition and how they are moving forward. The examples featured a range of use cases and discussion with joint problem-solving.

Counseling, Informed Consent, and Debriefing (CCD) for Cesarean Section: Hard to Define, Achieve, and Monitor – Key Findings from a Mixed Methods Study in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), India, and Nigeria

Counseling, informed consent, and debriefing (CCD) before and after cesarean section comprise important aspects of respectful maternity care. However, prior research indicates significant gaps may exist in these elements of care in many low- and middle-income countries. To better understand attitudes, preferences, and practices related to CCD in the context of both emergency and non-emergency surgical obstetric care, MOMENTUM Safe Surgery in Family Planning and Obstetrics conducted a mixed methods study (including interviews, focus group discussions, observations, and record reviews) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), India, and Nigeria. This fact sheet outlines key findings.

Promoting Children’s Health in Developing and Fragile Settings: Planning, Implementation, and Lessons Learned on Pediatric Death Audits Rollout

On September 28, 2023, MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience and MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership hosted a webinar to discuss the integration of pediatric death audits (PDA) in fragile and developing settings. The webinar highlighted the role that PDA can play in improving child health outcomes, including reducing mortality rates, as well as building health resilience and enhancing quality of care.

MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience Household Nutrition Survey

The eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is a fragile and high-conflict region where child health is below optimal levels, and stunting and wasting continue to be major problems. In the summer of 2022, MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience conducted a knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) survey in the catchment areas of 60 MOMENTUM-supported facilities across 10 health zones in North Kivu in eastern DRC. Implementation of Task Sharing Guidelines for Long-Acting and Permanent Methods

The WHO recommendations for task sharing present categories of healthcare providers and supply guidance on what different cadres within the health system are authorized to do in relation to the provision of contraceptive information and services, as well as the contexts in which they are allowed to offer contraceptive services. This brief synthesizes key findings and recommendations to enable donors, policymakers, advocacy groups, and program implementers to address existing policy and human resources barriers to implementation and to leverage opportunities to expand the practice of task sharing.
