Strengthening Health Systems: Highlights from India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Efforts

From August 2021 to December 2024 the Government of India and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare partnered with USAID MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity to develop a holistic approach to increase the uptake and acceptance of COVID-19 vaccines among marginalized and hard-to-reach populations across 18 states and union territories in India.

COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy and Acceptance Study in Madagascar

This report by MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership has information from key informant interviews in Madagascar at all levels of the system, including health leaders, civil society organizations, religious leaders, mayors and clients from vulnerable communities. The findings from the study will be useful for the Madagascar immunization program team and other immunization professionals concerned with COVID-19 vaccination implementation to understand the drivers of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and the solutions they can deploy to address it.

The Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus and Applications to Family Planning, Reproductive Health, and Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Interventions in Fragile Settings: A Case Study from Mali

Numerous approaches have been developed to define the humanitarian-development nexus and more broadly, the humanitarian-development-peace nexus. This report examines the humanitarian-development nexus and its application to health interventions in Mali, specifically family planning, reproductive health, and maternal, newborn, and child health (FP/RH/MNCH), concluding with recommendations for stakeholders related to health services, institutional architecture, leadership, financing, coordination, and localization.

MOMENTUM Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Framework

The MOMENTUM Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Framework is based on key concepts, relationships, and pathways through which MOMENTUM will achieve its overall vision. The framework is organized into five components: (1) Theory of Change, (2) Learning Agenda, (3) Measurement, (4) Analysis and Synthesis, and (5) Dissemination and Data Use. This document describes each component separately and how they work together across all the MOMENTUM awards to create a harmonized approach.

Sierra Leone Family Planning Costed Implementation Plan

This plan was developed by Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health, in collaboration with USAID’s MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership and key development partners, to support the country’s goal to ensure comprehensive quality FP information and services are acceptable and equitably accessible to all people in Sierra Leone. The plan presents a prioritized set of well-defined, high-impact interventions to be delivered through an integrated approach, focusing on three priority areas: postpartum family planning (PPFP), commodity stockout reductions, and increasing demand for FP through investments in social and behavior change strategies. Additionally, the plan includes district profiles that highlight the specific needs and objectives of each district, essential for the country to achieve a modern contraceptive prevalence rate (mCPR) of 35% by 2027.

USAID Immunization Partners’ Meeting Report

In alignment with the Immunization Agenda 2030, USAID remains committed to advancing equitable immunization to save lives and protect children and communities from outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases through a variety of approaches and projects. In March 2024, USAID held a meeting that convened USAID Missions, implementing partners, and external stakeholders in Washington, D.C., to harness the power of collective thinking in overcoming vaccination barriers at a critical moment for the global immunization community. Participants shared best practices and lessons learned from immunization programming successes, innovations, and challenges. This report summarizes meeting’s goals, sessions, and findings. The report also highlights what pivots are needed in the future for stronger, more resilient immunization programs.

MOMENTUM’s “Strengthening Analysis and Use of Routine Facility Data for Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health” webinar series is a “training of trainers” for monitoring, evaluation, and learning professionals working with MOMENTUM, USAID, and other partners.

Navigating Complexity Aware Monitoring: Real World Applications of Key Resources and Approaches

On July 31, 2024, MOMENTUM held a webinar exploring the Complexity-Aware Monitoring (CAM) Guide, one of the most downloaded resources on the MOMENTUM website. Participants learned about innovative monitoring approaches designed to address the unpredictable and dynamic nature of complex situations common in global health and development challenges. Experts from the MOMENTUM project and the CHISU program guided attendees through real-world examples, offering valuable insights on why, when, and how to use CAM approaches, along with practical advice for implementing them in their own work. Following presentations, participants had the opportunity to engage with experts during a Q&A session.

Renforcement de la préparation et de la réponse aux situations d’urgence en matière de planification familiale et de santé sexuelle et réproductive

Le 9 juillet 2024, MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience, en collaboration avec PROPEL Adapt et FP2030, a organisé un webinaire dans le cadre d'une série relative à la préparation aux urgences et à la résilience pour la planification familiale et la santé reproductive. FP2030 a investi dans la préparation et la réponse aux urgences en tant que stratégie clé pour renforcer la résilience des services de PF et sauver des vies en cas de chocs et de facteurs de stress pour les systèmes de santé ou les sociétés dans leur ensemble. Ce webinaire a fourni une occasion unique d'apprentissage et d'échange pour explorer la manière dont la RPE pour la PF/SRH peut être opérationnalisée et apprendre des pays des stratégies concrètes, des initiatives et des politiques qu'ils ont mises en œuvre pour assurer un accès continu à la PF et à la SRH pendant la crise. La session comprenait un dialogue avec des partenaires de différentes régions et confrontés à des contextes différents au Bangladesh, au Burkina Faso et en Éthiopie.

Un appel à l’action | Planification familiale post-partum et post-abortum: pratiques à fort impact qui doivent être transposées à plus grande échelle dans le cadre de la couverture sanitaire universelle et des soins de santé primaires

Les cadres de la couverture sanitaire universelle (CSU) et des soins de santé primaires (SSP) offrent des occasions uniques de faire progresser l'extension de la planification familiale post-partum et post-abortum (PPFP et PAFP), des interventions qui sont essentielles pour réduire les besoins non satisfaits en matière de contraception et dont l'impact sur la survie et le bien-être des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants a été prouvé. Cet appel à l'action exhorte toutes les parties prenantes à défendre cinq actions prioritaires pour soutenir l'extension de la PFPP et de la PAFP dans les contextes de la santé publique universelle et des soins de santé primaires.
